Our Vision & Values
At Upwood Primary Academy we:
Work Hard, Dream Big!
At the heart of our school is a deep belief in the power of education to create fulfilling futures. We exist to inspire, challenge and nurture every learner, ensuring that each child is known, valued and supported to become the very best version of themselves.
In January 2026, after consulting our whole school community, we launched a new vision for Upwood Primary Academy. Our vision is rooted in ambition, empowerment and community — a shared commitment to shaping confident, capable and compassionate young people who are ready to thrive in an ever‑changing world.
Our vision is:
Our school values serve as guiding principles in everything we do, helping us foster a strong sense of belonging for every child, staff member, and family. We know that when individuals feel seen, included, and valued, their learning deepens, their wellbeing strengthens, and their future pathways open with confidence and possibility. By living our values each day, we create a community where everyone can thrive.
Our values are:
We use our values to,
GROW
Gratitude:
Gratitude is noticing and appreciating the good things we have, the people who help us, the opportunities still to come and the moments we share. It means saying thank you through our words, actions, and attitudes, and showing appreciation to ourselves and others at school, at home, and wherever we are. It’s about being grateful for the challenges we face and the learning that takes part as we work to overcome them, understanding that it may not be achieved quickly. If we display gratitude, we help to build a collective, positive outlook in which all members of the community and beyond can grow.

Respect:
Respect means valuing ourselves, others, and the world around us, including those that may have different feelings, wishes, beliefs and views. We show respect through our words, actions, and attitudes by listening, being kind, and treating people, places, and belongings with care. Respect means we act thoughtfully and take responsibility for how our behaviour affects people and places. If we show respect, we will build an inclusive environment in which all members of the community and beyond can grow.

Optimism:
Optimism is the mindset of approaching learning and life with hope and a positive outlook, even when things are challenging. It is about believing that effort matters and that good things will happen by learning from mistakes and having high aspirations and standards. As we strengthen our possibilities, we become equipped with the ability to cope with challenges and maintain a positive outlook. We show optimism through our thoughts, words, and actions at school, at home, and wherever we are. If we embrace optimism, we will strengthen resilience and support collaboration, allowing all members of the community and beyond to grow.

Wonder:
Wonder encourages a sense of curiosity, openness, and amazement for the world around us. It is about asking questions, embracing new ideas, and finding joy in learning and discovery. It is about finding the joy, excitement and awe in every day, helping us to dream big and consider fulfilling opportunities. We show wonder by being present and inquisitive at school, at home, and wherever we are. If we seek wonder, we will encourage a positive outlook on life, improve mental and physical health, enhancing social connection and fostering a greater sense of meaning, allowing all members of our community and beyond to grow.

We do this by following The Upwood Way
